Something I wish I saw more of when researching Iceland was actual itineraries with timelines so I could better understand how to time block my day.
I'm going to keep this itinerary super basic and raw so you can get an idea of how many activities you can fit into the day.
There are some things I would tweak if I did this trip again, for example: I would slow down a bit mid trip instead of rushing for time. But I highly recommend starting North and working your way back down to the city.
DAY ONE
9:00 -- landed at KEF airport
9:45 -- pick up car rental
11:00 -- drive to Reykjavik
12:00 -- grocery shop
13:00 -- explore Reykjavik (4 hours)
17:00 -- head to the Blue Lagoon
18:00 -- Blue Lagoon
20:30 -- search for campsite
DAY TWO
7:00 -- drive north (9 hours to allow for brief stops along the way)
16:00 -- Diamond beach
17:00 -- Glacier Kayaking (pre-booked)
19:30 -- find campsite
DAY THREE
10:00 -- LATEST to leave campsite
13:00 -- Glacier Hike (pre-booked)
19:00 -- find campsite
DAY FOUR
11:00 -- Reynisfjara (Black Sand Beach)
Dyrholaey (it says open 24 hours, but it is not. It was closed when we got there)
Loftsalahellir Cave
Skogafoss Waterfall
22:00 -- Solheimasandur Plane Wreck hike (empty- perfect photo time)
* stayed up late
2:45 -- Seljavallaug Swimming Pool (empty)
DAY FIVE
14:00 -- Hrunalaug Hot Spring (2 hour limit \ $10 entry fee pp)
19:00 -- find a campsite
* definitely can do more this day however, it was raining all day and we were tired so we took a chill one.
DAY SIX
12:00 -- Fridheimar Restaurant (make reservations)
16:00 -- Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
18:00 -- Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River (incline trail - a bit challenging)
22:00 -- find campsite near airport
DAY SEVEN
7:45 -- drop off rental car
9:00 -- airport check-in
11:00 -- flight back home
